Russia's Demographic Revival (Increasing Fertility Rate, Increasing Birth Rate and Declining Death Rate): Population Growth
2009 was the year Russia experienced its first population growth since the collapse of the Soviet Union (USSR) in 1991. However, it was a population growth fueled by a net positive migration over a net negative natural growth rate ( number of births was lower than number of deaths). So when the birthrate and the death rate evened out in 2012, it was a milestone. But when the birth rate surpassed the death rate in 2013, a trend that has persisted since then, making Russia one of the few countries in Europe experiencing a natural population growth, which boosted by immigration, makes it one of the fastest growing populations in Europe, it said a lot about Russia's achievements in its battle against population decline. Hence Russia bucks the trend of declining fertility rates in Europe.
(e)- All values in year 2015 are estimated.[55]
At the moment in Europe, only France (2.01), Ireland (1.94), Iceland (1.93), Sweden (1.88) and UK (1.81) surpass Russia (1.78) in terms of fertility rate. And based on the current trajectory, Russia would have the highest fertility rate in Europe by 2030. In terms of birthrate, Russia (13.3/100 births) comes second to Ireland (14.4/1000 births) in 2015.
