THE BETRAYAL OF HOPE

When a people are in bondage, and are still reeling from a history of a failed attempt at liberation where they paid a heavy price, they become extremely cautious about whom to throw their support behind in a cause to attain freedom and liberty. When the people pin their faith on someone, give in their lot and realize in the end that the someone was not genuine, their faith in a liberator becomes shattered. That is the case of the Cameroonian people.

Fru Ndi and the other so-called opposition leaders ended up as nothing but "False prophets" in that phase of the Cameroonian struggle. They never had the prudence, temperance, fortification and sense of justice that is required of leaders that are capable of righting a wrong or changing the anachronistic French-imposed system. They betrayed the struggling Cameroonian masses, the struggle and the memory of those who died for a free, liberal, united and prosperous Cameroon. If we are not honest with ourselves and criticize and reject not only the system, but also those who contributed to its survival by their half-hearted or false opposition to the system, then the Cameroonian people shall for ever be trapped in the deception and shall never realize the change that would realize the New Cameroon and a desirable society.

It is not surprising. The rot in the SDF was caused  by a clique many often  lightly referred to back in the late 1990s as "The Ntarikon mafia" , “The Baforchu mafia”, "The Ngemba mafia", etc. That clique had Fru Ndi at his head. Simply, the chief spin-doctor in the Fru-Ndi led mafia in the SDF was Mbah Ndam. The clique is heavily tainted by much of the vices that we criticize in the horrible Biya regime. With their self-interest unveiled, the Fru Ndi-Mbah Ndam etc clique,  are contented with a share of the "supposedly" national cake; that is all. They have become as irrelevant in the struggle for the new Cameroon as much as Bello Bouba, Ndam Njoya, Koddock and all the others  who sold out to the system and its French masters.

They have all lost the essence of the struggle, and as stated earlier, I consider them as detractors to the noble ideals of the Cameroonian struggle to change the anachronistic French-imposed system. They betrayed the union nationalists and revolutionaries of the SDF and above all, they betrayed the struggling Cameroonian masses and the hundreds of thousands of Cameroonians who died for a free, prosperous, liberal and united Cameroon.

Afterthought: September 06, 2010:

True exponents of change have been observing  a recent drive  for change coming from untested elements in  the Diaspora, with a strategy to win legitimacy from the discredited opposition leaders who have  effectively legitimized Biya’s  usurpation  and acted in a symbiosis in maintaining the system in power,  an opposition whose structures are currently decrepit and that does not have the resources to mobilize the highly lethargic Cameroonian masses suffering from the fallout of   the betrayal of their political dreams of democracy, freedom, liberty, development, progress, prosperity and a better life .

The next phase of the struggle wouldn’t be a short haul that would last a year.  It would involve dismantling the system, a process that might even take a decade. To accomplish such a task, we need a national ideal, effective organization, built-up  resolve, a dedicated leadership, enthusiasm, a clearly defined strategy, identification of our goals and  a clear idea of what  and who we are against. That calls for  purposeful debates, progressive alliances and  an effective PR.

  1. Good write-up, well articulated. You have really summed up our demise as a nation in this write-up, how do we strategies then is the question. Who among our leaders can come up with well defined vision, knowing fully well that they will be road blocks along the way, they will be name calling, they will be all types of manipulations to derail the vision, but will stay above the frail concentrate on the vision to lead us to the promise land. These are the criteria that we need from any person who wish to take up this fight for the liberation of our fatherland, Cameroon.
