Longest Serving Heads of State in Africa (All are still in power today)

Africa's longest serving leaders



  1. Denis Sassou Nguesso of  The Republic of Congo has been in power altogether for 31 years (1979-1992, following his loss in the 1992 presidential elections to Pascal Lissouba; and from 1997 following his military victory over Pascal Lissouba's forces in the Congolese civil war of that year) a puppet of France.
  2. The Bongos of Gabon have been in power for 48 years (Omar Bongo from 1967-2009, and now his son  Ali Bongo whom he handed power to with the backing of France fro 2009-today) a puppet of France.
  3. The Eyademas of  Togo have been in power for 48 years (General Gnassingbé Eyadéma from April 14, 1967 – February 5, 2005, and now his son  Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé whom he handed power to with the backing of France fro 2009-today) a puppet of France.
  4. The Bongo and  Gnassingbé Eyadéma dynasties came about from a decision from legendary French coup enable Jacques Foccart  who controlled the French Ministry of Cooperation (the former ministry of the colonies) who was called Monsieur Afrque for his intrique in France's control of its former Sub-Saharan colonies.
