Cameroon Party Chief Is Dead of Poisoning (Culled from the New York Times---Nov. 4, 1960)

GENEVA, Nov. 3—Felix Moumie, leader of the opposition Union of Populations party in the Cameroon Republic, died in a hospital here tonight of thallium poisoning. The police are investigating his allegation that he had been poisoned by political enemies. Thallium is a metallic element of the aluminum family used in rodent poisons. The anti-French African political leader entered the hospital more than two weeks ago and was later placed in an iron lung because his respiratory system was affected.

Mr. Moumie, who was strongly Left-wing, opposed the French when the Cameroons was a French territory and was active in armed resistance to the government that took over when the country became independent, because of its close ties with France.
