In a nutshell, most Amba
supporters, sympathizers, vanguards, and leaders (former and current) now
quietly or privately acknowledge the fact that this decade-long boycott of
schools, coercively enforced by Amba fighters, which became a strategy shortly
after the 2016 protests by teachers and lawyers, is a disaster that began
"...when irresponsible elements hijacked it", as a staunch Amba put
it. But he made no mention of the victims (children and parents in
particular)...Lack of accountability or a lack of sense of responsibility,
pundits would say. That in itself oozes political immaturity, something the
system feeds off. Yet he still prescribes the same old strategy but with the
caveat "...that only (organized) school boycott can save the anglophone
from drowning...", as he wrote.
The only times we (the
people West of the Mungo) effectively
used school boycott and achieved results were when we worked together, and not
doing so coercively. Civic-nationalism was the dominant political consciousness
or force at the time, and it was all-embracing.
Amba needs to stop making itself an obstacle
to forces West of the Mungo coming together to forge a united front. Amba needs
to stop being anti-people in its actions for the atmosphere of the early 1990s
in particular(when gains were made from school boycotts) to return, a time we
had the moral high ground and our regions led the quest for systemic change in
Cameroon. For our "Anglophone
Cameroonian" Renaissance and united front to be born, the “Free Amba Leadership”
needs to abandon its self-destructive and anti-people ways, render a mea
culpa, and make promises to the people not to be consciously or
unconsciously anti-people again. That way, we save the "Anglophone
Cameroonian Soul" and rekindle the spirit of our people; that way, we become
an indispensable part of the coalition of forces that would dismantle this
anachronistic French-imposed system and found “THE NEW CAMEROON” that would
realize the goals of reunification and independence and make this amazing land
a cherished and advanced part of the “NEW AFRICA”
